Apple CEO talks about a ranges of topics in his China trip

The China Development Forum 2017 is a high-profile conference in which global corporation leaders, senior Chinese government officials, scholars and institutions gather to talk about several issues like China’s relationship with the wider world and Chinese economic reform. Even Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty attended the same event as well.

The report by The Wall Street Journal says Cook chose to concentrate on the perceived advantages of globalization during his speech, saying its impact on the world is great. He also talked about the uneven distribution of its cultural and economic gains. Amid calls from the Trump administration to investing in the United States and despite several shortcomings, the Apple CEO motivated China and other countries “to bet on a future of more balanced development by opening themselves further to foreign investment.”

Cook said, “I think the worst thing would be to — because it didn’t help everyone — is to say it’s bad and do less of that” He added “I think the reality is you can see that countries in the world… that isolate themselves, it’s not good for their people.” The comments by Cook mostly avoided the sensitive political issues of China. Cook said that they think a person should own their data and should be able to control their data. On Monday as part of his China trip, the Apple CEO is scheduled to talk to Xu Lin, director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, in a private meeting.
