Facebook, the social networking site, is continuing to include new features to its network for getting more users and keeping them content. In its bid to make the Facebook Live platform even more useful, the social media giant included a new feature recently to Live. Now, the users who often use desktops and are unable to stream Live videos through their PCs will be able to do so.

Go Live from your laptops or desktops

Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Facebook, said in recent quarterly earnings calls that the social media giant is currently “putting videos first.” Now, video streaming has become an important feature for almost all major social networking platforms like Twitter (Periscope), Instagram (Instagram Live), etc. The tech giant – given the recent feature – is obviously putting videos first through Live videos.

The tech giant has brought new features to its Live platform since it released the live video in 2015. The social networking site has even allowed the users to go live on the social network to almost all countries through smartphones. In its fourth-quarter earnings call, the tech company underlined that it is continuing to improve live video as more and more people use it. According to the management, the social network will have more updates soon. Just this Tuesday, the social media platform announced the new feature – the ability to stream live video via laptop or desktop computers.

The update may not be very huge but it does open up live-streaming on Facebook to a new world of possibilities.

How to stream Live video through your PC or laptop?

Facebook said that since last year, it has been possible for users to go live to the social network from mobile devices and “desktop or laptop computers provide a stable camera setup that can be beneficial to many types of Facebook Live broadcasts — from Q&As to vlogs to tutorials to any broadcast from someone who isn’t on the move.”

In addition to this, the update further includes the ability for people to use external hardware or streaming software while posting live video on the social networking site. This means that the users will find it easier to switch cameras, insert graphics, share their screens and achieve professional-quality streaming with professional equipment.

Streaming live videos from your desktop or laptop computer is very easy:

  • Firstly, the user has to open their favorite browser, and visit Facebook.com.
  • Then, they have to click in the status text box and tap on Live Video
  • Next, they select their preferred privacy setting, enter a short description about the video
  • Now, they have to just click ‘Next’ and then click ‘Allow’ to give the tech giant permission to access your microphone and webcam
  • The last step is going Live
