OnePlus – the China-based smartphone making giant – is gearing up for the release of its much-awaited flagship OnePlus 5 on June 22 in Mumbai, India. After OnePlus 3, we got to see the OnePlus 3T. There was no OnePlus 4 – probably because the Chinese believe ‘4’ to be the unlucky number – so there is much hype about the upcoming flagship device in the country.
OnePlus 5 ready for its India launch, here’s what you should know about the device
Both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T saw good sales in India and people in India have been waiting for the next phone in line for a long time. However, the smartphone making company received much censure when several reports revealed that the smartphone might bring back the OnePlus invite system that required people to have an invite to be able to buy the OnePlus device. Do not worry, the reports were wrong.
The China-based smartphone maker clarified recently that reports about the much-criticized OnePlus invite system were false and there was no such plan by the smartphone making giant. The smartphone maker said that the sale of the smartphone would be “available to all, invite-free”.
The much awaited handset is slated to be released on June 22 in India at an event organized in NSCI Dome, Mumbai. To the eager fans, the smartphone maker is giving an invite that gives them entry to the unveiling event. The fans – at just Rs. 999 per invite – can get other rewards as well such as travel backpacks, sunglasses and T-shirts. We think the earlier rumors about “certain invites” were actually about the invites to this event where “Invite holders will receive a OnePlus 5 invite code at the launch event”.
Specs of the smartphone
The base model of the OnePlus 5 would be released with two storage and RAM variants – 128GB/8GB and 64GB/6GB, according to True-tech.net report that cited “reliable sources” for giving the information. The premium version, according to the report, that would come with 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM could retail at Rs 37,999 whereas the base model with 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM might be priced at Rs 32,999.
OnePlus posted a teaser of the smartphone on microblogging site Twitter which showed that the upcoming smartphone would have dual rear cameras placed horizontal at the top left of the device. Further, it was disclosed that the OnePlus 5 smartphone might offer black as a color option. Pete Lau, the CEO of the smartphone maker, confirmed that the smartphone would use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.
