Freshly – a healthy meal startup – has raised a big funding round from a big and famous company – the Unites States division of food and beverage giant Nestle. Michael Wystrach, the chief executive officer and co-founder of the startup company, has pitched the food company as a way to get on-demand and healthy meals.
How Freshly works and how is it different from other healthy meal startups?
The other food and healthy meal delivery startups are all about delivering on-demand healthy food on a given time duration, however, Freshly does not work like that. In Freshly, the users get one delivery of all their meals for the week instead of getting an order from the food startup every time they want.
Whenever the buyer gets hungry, they can just heat one of the meals delivered on their stove or microwave. At the time, Freshly has a rotating menu of over 30 different dishes, which are created after proper consultation with nutritionists. The food delivery company says, notes news site TechCrunch, “those meals are made without refined sugars or artificial ingredients.”
The food delivery has a list of 85 banned ingredients at the time. The time begins at $49.99 per week for four meals. As for the number of employees working under the company. Currently, it has over 400 employees in Phoenix and New York and it delivers meals to over 28 states.
Here’s what Nestle has to say about Freshly
The most recent $77 million Series C funding is bringing its overall funding to $107 million and it is meant to fund the nationwide expansion of the food delivery startup. The funding round was led by Nestle USA, with participation from previous investors like White Star Capital, Highland Capital Partners, and Insight Venture Partners.
Nestle, which operates over 2,000 food and beverage brands, is not a small company and it is a huge thing for Freshly to be funded by the food making giant. In the funding release, Jeff Hamilton, President of Nestlé Foods Division, said “The traditional food model is shifting and we continue to see an increase in more health-conscious consumers who are seeking new options and services that fit easily and effortlessly into their lifestyle. Freshly delivers on this need, with an easy-to-use and differentiated brand experience that immediately makes an impact in helping their customers eat healthier each week.”
