Tesla – the electric car making giant – is going with the new secret level prizes of its most recent round of the referral program for Model X and Model S owners. The automaker has added a second “secret level” after a large discount on the unreleased next-gen Roadster. The second ‘secret level’ has some connection with the “Boring Company” of Elon Musk.
What is the second prize under the referral program?
The prizes of the referral programs of the electric car maker were quite similar in each of its rounds – an invite to the latest event of Tesla Motors, a new set of wheel, and a Powerwall but in its latest round, the automaker has added “secret levels” unlocked only when all the referrals of the person are delivered. The users can know what the prize is after the completion of that level and can get 5 more referrals to unlock it. The prizes looks like things that the consumers will get only if they continue down the road.
The first level for every referral is a 2% discount on a Founder Series next-gen Roadster that has not even been announced or unveiled for production yet. The second secret level prize is driving the electric boring machine of “The Boring Company.” The message reads, “Drive an Electric Boring Machine. You’ve unlocked the second secret level. Refer 5 more friends to drive an electric tunnel boring machine with The Boring Company in Hawthorne, Ca.”
This is not the first time that the prizes of the automaker have to do with the other companies of Elon Musk – the Chief Executive of the company. Before, the electric carmaker provided tours of headquarters of SpaceX as referral prizes. Recently, the tech news site Electrek reported about the “Boring Company plans to use Tesla’s technology for its tunnel project under LA.” The news site said that the automaker is developing its own tunnel boring technology on their Boring Machine 1 – also called Godot – “which is likely with referral winners will drive, but their system of electric skates to transport cars in tunnels will use Tesla’s tech, according to a Boring Company executive.”
Tesla and Uber are on a collision Course: Jason Calacanis
Jason Calacanis – a very popular tech investor – has recently called for a merger between Tesla Motors and Uber. The investor has argued that the two companies are on a “collision course.” The said investor was an angel investor for the ride-sharing service and he owns the Tesla Model S with the serial number 00001.
The tech investor wants to see both the popular company merged under the leadership of CEO Elon Musk. He is hoping that this would undo the damage that the ride sharing app has done to its reputation and customer base. In a recent episode of his podcast “This Week in Startups”, he said, “We need to get back to that sense of camaraderie and resolve these issues for the employees and the stakeholders in Uber.” Both Uber and Tesla could not be reached for comment on the matter.
